New Report on Social Networking on the Web

The international report Sharing, Privacy and Trust in Our Networked World examines user practices and preferences on their favorite social sites, information privacy, and the role of libraries in social networking.

One interesting result of the report was the popularity of different social neworking sites by age of user as listed below:

  1. The survey was conducted between December 7, 2006 and February 7, 2007, but it is includes more than U.S. results. The report is based on a survey (by Harris Interactive on behalf of OCLC) of the general public from six countries—Canada, France, Germany, Japan, the United Kingdom and the United States. Perhaps that is why the results for Facebook are not as robust as you might expect.

  2. Does anyone know how these have changed in the last year?

    I imagine that Facebook must have gained significant ground. Also the new Facebook Connect is going to take thing to another level.

  3. I could imagine Facebook is a clear leader in the two younger age groups, and in the top three for 50+
