Dr. Saul Petersen, Executive Director
Dr. Petersen is our first full-time Executive Director. He most recently held the position of director of the Center for Community Research and Engagement at Seton Hall University. In that post, Dr. Petersen oversaw the coordination of all service-learning and community-based research on the campus. With his Ph.D. in Educational Psychology from the Graduate Center at CUNY and a Bachelors degree from Bard College in New York, Petersen has served as a consultant for Kingsborough Community College’s Center for Economic and Workforce Development and has held a number of teaching positions at both the graduate and undergraduate level in the areas of teacher supervision, child development, and educational psychology.
“Presently, there is both the momentum and opportunity to make great advances in institutional civic engagement practices,” said Dr. Petersen. “We will broaden our civic engagement partnerships to leverage the numerous civic leaders currently working in higher education. These leaders can be found across myriad departments throughout the state and so our work must focus on recognizing their contribution to campus wide engagement initiatives, while at the same time convening leaders to share and co-create capacity to build community and to inspire possibility.”
