Job Posting: The Department of Student Activities at the University of Connecticut announces the opening of a full-time Student Activities Program Coordinator I position as an Alternative Break Coordinator in the Student Activities Community Outreach Office
Under the general supervision of designated supervisor, this position advises and assists student leaders, student organizations, and university departments in planning and implementing their community service-learning focused alternative break and immersion programs and provides student leadership training programs for students and organizations.
Duties and responsibilities will include, but are not limited to: Coordinates all programs in assigned area of responsibility; assists and advises student leaders and organizations in planning, developing, scheduling, budgeting and marketing their alternative break trips; provides counseling on organizational development; develops communication with campus community to facilitate coordination of programs. Assists with office wide student leadership development, reflection and recognition programs; aids in liaison activities between different campus and off-campus groups and organizations in developing and implementing service programs. Maintains and monitors important programmatic records and develops related reports when requested. Participates in at least one alternative break & immersion trip per year; serves as resource to assist student organizations and University departments in the development and management of related programs. Develops staff training and development programs for department as requested; performs related duties as required.
Minimum Qualifications: Bachelor’s degree in appropriate field and two to three years’ experience or equivalent combination of training and experience; demonstrated ability to deal effectively with the public, students, faculty, staff and external agencies; willingness to work irregular and flexible hours; leadership, organizational and programming skills; ability to actively foster a campus climate that is welcoming and supportive of University of Connecticut’s diverse student body and encourages communication with and among campus constituencies.
This is a full-time, permanent position with a competitive salary in the low 40’s, plus a full range of health/retirement benefits.
