High Schools Converge at Fairfield for FUMUN VIII

The Fairfield University Model UN club hosted its eighth annual high school conference on Friday, November 18. FUMUN VIII hosted more than 225 high school students from New York, New Jersey, and Connecticut. Dr. Joy Gordon was the keynote speaker for the conference’s opening ceremonies, held in Gonzaga Hall Auditorium.

The conference was organized by sophomores Tom Dalo ’14 and Lorena Gullotta ’14. The co-secretary generals mobilized the Fairfield Model UN club members to chair seven committees. Topics included the 2008 financial crisis, pirates in Somalia, stability in Darfur, the Human Rights Council, the BP oil spill, the Toyota Motors Senate hearing, and a special Council of Europe session. A total of 14 high schools participated in the student-run committees.
