On July 2, Dr. Terry-Ann Jones officially took over as the new director of the International Studies Program. Dr. Jones is Associate Professor of Sociology and Anthropology with primary teaching responsibilities in International Studies. Dr. Jones is recognized for her scholarly contributions to study of international and domestic migration in the Western Hemisphere.
Her research has compared Jamaican immigrants in the U.S. and Canada, examining the racial and ethnic settings, labor markets, and immigration policies of the two countries. Her book on this theme, Jamaican Immigrants in the United States and Canada: Race, Transnationalism, and Social Capital, was published in 2008. Her second book, Mass Migration in the World-System: Past, Present, and Future, was co-edited with Eric Mielants and published in 2010. Professor Jones is currently doing research on seasonal labor migration in Brazil.
