Online shopping drives early holiday sales

Gerard Cavallo, associate professor of Marketing at Fairfield University, foresees more shoppers flocking to the Internet rather than braving the malls and stores. “Some people just don’t want the packed [Black] Friday phenomenon,” Cavallo said. “They don’t want to risk going out there. The alternative [the Internet] is more convenient; no time constraints, you don’t have to wait in line and bear the cold. And younger people are used to buying with a computer.
