Brian Torff exposes “The inherent problem of describing music’s ethereal art in book form” in the PW Lost Chords column

In a current industry essay, author of the recently self-published memoir, In Love with Voices: A Jazz Memoir, Brian Torff writes about the rarity of the writer that actually does “manage to aptly capture music on paper” and the uphill battle he or she faces finding a book publisher who doesn’t see writing about jazz “as a four-letter word … I worry about a great country that doesn’t know much about one of its most influential musical art forms.”
