First, the plugiin coding needs to be loaded by CNS.  Jay R did thsi form me.  The two plugins needed are

Tag Cloud widget for UTW 1.0 Adds a tag cloud sidebar widget, used with Ultimate Tag Warrior 3.14159265 By Wei Wei. Deactivate

 and also Ultimate Tag

Go into the Plugin section and Activate the two plugins.

Then go to Presentation and then Sidebars Widegts and move the Tag Cloud box into the sidebar.

Next you have to go back into each entry and add a tag.  The category will automatically be added once you type something into the tag line.  That is why it is best to do this before you start the blog.

Finding blogs #9

December 19, 2007 | 569 Comments

My first choice when I want to locate a blog is to go to Google blogs http://blogsearch.google.com/?ie=UTF-8&tab=wb

I tried Technorati and it is very easy to use.

Using Bloglines #8

December 18, 2007 | 159 Comments

It’s been a long time since I used my Bloglines account.  I went into it today and tried to clean it up a bit - out with the old and in with the new.

Even though the concept of RSS is terrific, I don’t use mine much.  I guess I still get my news from traditional sources.  There is no blog author which I feel compelled to follow.  I am very interested in seeing suggestions from  other staff members on who and what blogs to read.

I added a few new blogs to read.-

1, A vegetarian cooking blog RSS http://z.about.com/6/g/vegetarian/b/rss2.xml

2. Curtis’ blog - RSS http://www.bibliovoodoo.net/bibliofile/feed/

3. Huffington post - RSS http://feeds.huffingtonpost.com/huffingtonpost/raw_feed

4. Mashup - RSS http://feeds.feedburner.com/Mashable

5. The DNL Report - RSS http://blog.fairfield.edu/The_DNL_Report/?feed=rss2

6. BrainStorm from the Chronicle of Higher Ed - http://chronicle.com/review/brainstorm/rss/

I already subscribe to a bunch of Library related RSS feeds- a good one is Library marketing - thinking outside the box RSS

Here are the Reading Day pics I took today. I uploaded them to Flicker and made them into a set. Here is the link in Flickr http://www.flickr.com/photos/dnlibrary/sets/72157603460808421/

Then I sent this one picture directly to my blog.

Technology Tools #7

December 14, 2007 | 539 Comments

I’m really glad I decided to do my 23 Things blog in WordPress.  I’m learning a lot about how this quirky software works, especially how it works and could work at Fairfield University. Getting the Meebo Plugoo to work (allows people to IM me from the blog itself)was difficult.  WordPress is not intuitive and requires you to go into the coding, shout out to Curtis on that! We then put a Meebo Plugoo on the DNL Report blog which allows people to IM the Reference Desk from the DNL Report Blog.

Here is a jigsaw puzzle pic I made of a library pic from a Flickr application. None of the other applications intersted me. I will be curious how others use Flickr.

The hardest habit for me is # 7-1/2 - to know the value of play.  I tend to be very task driven. The easiest habit for me is #4 - have confidence in myself as learner.  I usually stick to things until I get it.http://www.plcmc.org/public/learning/player.html
