To get the direct url from NetLibrray,

1. Go to the sirsi record.

2. Right clik on url link called “url”

3. Select Copy Shortcut.

4 Then paste it into a document or html page

5 Remove the leading and ending junk.

It should look something like this link.

https://libdb.fairfield.edu/login?url=http://www.netLibrary.com/urlapi.asp?action=summary&v=1&bookid=127513

The tutorial was interesting to watch.  In it she says delicious is best for 1. doing research and 2. making shared reading lists.

I think delicious has a lot of power for sharing information. I went into my delicious account, did research on freshmen reading programs and then tagged them with the (currently) unique tag freshmen_book.  I could send this tag around to interested people and they could type it in and see what I tagged.  They could also comment.  The problem is that many of the people I would send the link to might find the use of delicious a barrier, rather than an aid.  I could just send them a list in an email and it might be better for them.

Rollyo # 12

I created this search box using Rollyo.  The box searches all of the websites which are on my Best Bets Guide for Research in Economics.  It is extremely easy to create a search box, selecting a limited number of sites to search, and then pasting the html coding.   I can see this being very useful for creating research guides or class handouts.  Link to rollyo is http://www.rollyo.com/.  Bummer that the results page has ads though.

Library Thing # 11

January 22, 2008 | 13 Comments

I created a widget which displays the covers of the books I put in Library Thing. The 7 books shown were used by me in a Economics class I did today.

How can I use this for work? If I want to show book covers on the DNL Report blog, I can make a list of them in LibraryThing and easily get thr source coding to diplay them in my blog.

I created this video mashup on the Monk USA website.  Sadly, no Dr. Kroeger!

image generators #10

I tried fototrix.com. I wouldn’t recommend it. I had trouble getting the image to look good.

I also tried shadowfire to Warholize a picture http://www.shadowfire.de/warholizer. It is very cool.  Becaase it only allows me to save my image to my computer, and WordPress bloggging software requires a url to display a picture, I cannot show the  Warholized image here.

I tried FD toys and Generator. The only way I could get teh images onto my blog was wither to save it to a flickr account or get the html coding and put it in. The warhol one is from bighugelabs.com
