Meet the Reluctant Environmentalist
Hello, and welcome to my blog, The Reluctant Environmentalist. Why the title? Because it’s true, I have been reluctant so far to concentrate on environmental issues. They all seemed so complicated! I’ve held back. I’ve worried that living a planet-friendly lifestyle would take up all my time and more, and I already had a day job.
Finally, though, I’ve decided to put myself on a learning curve. I do believe the planet needs humanity’s help. My blog is the step-by-step tale of my belated good-will efforts to learn a greener lifestyle. I figured you as readers might enjoy my discoveries, laugh about my fumbles (there will be fumbles), and chip in with your advice.
For my part, I’ll comb the Internet and beg my environmental friends for good tips and good websites to offer you. Living green is something we all have to learn together, anyway, so I’m (reluctantly) playing the role of guinea pig for everyone.
My background? I’m a kind of educational hybrid. I majored in math and minored in chemistry at Duke, then “came North” (as we Southerners say) to Connecticut and got a doctorate in literature at Yale. The rest is my job history: joined the Fairfield faculty, helped the Writing Center and English Department and Faculty Welfare Committee, and taught literature for many years. I’ve written nonfiction, fiction, newsletters, and a bunch of literary scholarship. Details are on my webpage: http://faculty.fairfield.edu/msregan.
