On Wednesday, September 7th, the Service Learning Associates convened for the first time this semester. After a packed 4-hour training, the Associates are all ready to begin their work in service learning classes across 7 different departments. This semester, we have 5 returning Associates and 4 new participants.
Our training covered the topics of community partners and student empowerment, provided an overview of transportation procedures and other service learning forms, detailed effective organizational strategies, discussed faculty/associate working relationship, and touched upon various other topics. Associates even showed off their acting acumen through performing Service Learning “scenarios.”
The OSL is very lucky to have such a special group of students participating in the program! We look forward to an exciting new semester as SLA turns 2 (we count in increments of semesters—think of it as dog years).
