On Saturday, September 12, 2009 Dean Vagos Hadjimichael, Ph.D. welcomed and addressed the new 32 freshman engineering students at a workshop entitled “Student Engagement for Academic Success: An Interactive Experience.” Dean Hadjimichael emphasized the importance of achieving one’s own vision as a learner.
The 10 a.m. meeting, held in the Robert J. Brennan, Jr ’65 room of Alumni House, informed students of their upcoming agenda and required courses for the next four years. While enjoying a small breakfast of bagels and coffee, the students sat at several round tables along with alumni, current students, and new students. The joining students were provided the opportunity to prepare for their school year by discussing their future classes and challenges with alumni and current students.
“No other engineering school I know asks students to take liberal arts courses like we do,” said Dean Hadjimichael as he spoke about the students being well rounded after graduating from Fairfield University.
As a non-engineering student in attendance, I came to the realization that Fairfield University offers great programs that are both challenging and helpful, and encourage one’s best. All Fairfield students have the opportunity to leave the University with a great education.
