On December 9, 2009, Fairfield University hosted a membership drive for Fairfield LIVE, a new social media space online for Fairfield students to chat, share pictures and videos, and blog about everything Fairfield. The site, which links to Facebook, has been created to get current students more involved with the campus community, and for prospective students to get a real feel for Fairfield University.
The event was a post-basketball game party at the Levee, where students were able to join the Fairfield LIVE team for music, fun, and community bonding. An influx of students arrived, many of whom signed up for Fairfield LIVE and walked away with free t-shirts and pizza, as well as a new place to get connected with others on campus. Students were able to join the online community in a few simple steps, and got help first hand from Fairfield LIVE online tour guides, Jenna and Kekoa, Fairfield LIVE Weekly co-hosts Victoria Clougher and Tom Soporito, and the Web Communications staff, including the department’s work studies (like myself!).
When asked about his ideas on the event, Director of Web Communications Scott Barnett said, “Fairfield LIVE is a unique way to communicate among peers. We want to improve the sense of community here on campus and share what we’re about to current and prospective students.” Barnett also indicated that there will be more events come spring semester, with contests and additional promotional giveaways.
The Post-Game Party was successful, with many students joining Fairfield LIVE and getting to know their campus community better in the process. Don’t miss the buzz – visit online today for more information, to join, and/or to share what Fairfield’s all about from your perspective!
