Legal Update 2010: Family Violence and the Court System

Continuing the focus on community engagement, the Counselor Education Series for Human Services Professionals sponsored a workshop entitled “2010 Legal Update:  Family Violence and the Court System” on Saturday, October 30. Dr. Tracey Robert, Associate Professor of Counselor Education, coordinated the event for Domestic Violence Awareness Month with The Center for Women & Families in Bridgeport, Conn.

The 3 excellent presenters were:

  • Gail Wiggins, Lead  Court Advocate for the Center for Women & Families
  • Judy Stevens, J.D., the Senior State’s Attorney for the Domestic Violence docket in Bridgeport,  the first dedicated court for domestic violence cases in the state
  • Det. Kerry Dalling of the Fairfield Police Department

Attendees included professionals in the field, alumni, and current students from the counselor education and marriage and family therapy programs at Fairfield University and Southern Connecticut State University.
