Recognizing the achievements of Fairfield alumni is not a job for Janet—it’s a vocation.

Janet Canepa ’82 recently received the prestigious Eleanor Collier Award, presented to her at the CASE (Council on Advancement and Support of Education) District I/II Conference in New York City this January. The award recognizes a current CASE District I member whose contribution to his or her organization and to the membership professions reflect honor on CASE, education, and those fields of professional expertise.
From the presentation given to Janet by the CASE District I Distinguished Service & Awards Committee
“For her clear dedication to the advancement of her institution and our profession, CASE District I is proud to honor Janet Canepa with the Eleanor Collier Award.
It’s been said that Janet Canepa has had contact with literally every graduate of Fairfield University during her 17-year leadership. Whether through an e-mail, phone call, letter, or event, Janet’s name is known to and respected amongst all 42,000 graduates of the University. During her tenure as director, Alumni Relations at Fairfield has grown tenfold. Alumni chapters have been established nationwide; activities are up more than a hundred percent over the past five years, student-alumni networking is at an all-time high, and more and more alumni raise their hands to volunteer each year.
All this is a testament to the leadership of Janet Canepa. Her nominators aver that it is a privilege to know her, and to witness the compassionate and thoughtful leadership she offers, the inspiration she represents for them to work to be their best, and the dignity and care with which she treats everyone.
Recognizing the achievements of Fairfield alumni is not a job — it’s a vocation for her. No matter how busy her schedule, she always seems to have the time to help those in need, comfort those in sorrow, and celebrate life’s joys. She is described by her colleagues as the heart and soul of Fairfield, striving tirelessly for the betterment of her institution and its community.”
Words from Janet
While I appreciate the recognition of this award, it’s the team effort every day that has allowed us to accomplish all that we have. As an alumna of Fairfield, it’s a privilege and a joy to work with my fellow alumni—to better serve one another, and the University. Thank you!
